GETTING ACQUAINTED
A beautifully tailored garment takes time. Time to get to know you: your physique, your busy or more relaxed lifestyle, your tastes and preferences. Time for fittings, for sourcing the best fabrics. Time to get everything just right, so that when you finally put the finished garment on, you never want to take it off. As a Matthew Elliott Bespoke client, you’ll benefit from the knowledge of a team that’s dedicated to achieving that look you’ve been looking to achieve without mortgaging the family home. First you’ll speak to one of our personal tailors who will introduce you to the bespoke ranges and fabrics you could choose.
DESIGN & MEASURE
Our experience means that as well as taking up to 50 individual measurements, we’ll assess your posture and look to accentuate your best features. Our ability to think in three dimensions means that when we cut your cloth, we will make subtle adjustments to the fit and hang that, at this point, only we can see. Conversations about fabrics, linings and other details can be as wide-ranging or as simple as you like. Many clients enjoy customising their garments to suit their lifestyle, and one of our trademark details at Matthew Elliot Bespoke is hiding messages under the collar.
FINAL FITTING
Once these decisions are made, the fabric panels are handed over to the tailor specialising in your garment, be it trousers, waistcoat or coat. They will roughly stitch the pieces together so that at your first fitting the cutter can see how well the garment is working on you: how it fits, how it hangs, how it moves. Adjustments are made and a second fitting planned, where the garment will be closer to what you might expect to see. There may be the need for more fittings, but generally we’re then able to take your outfit to the finishing stage. As many as 80 hours are dedicated to each garment over a period of 6 to 8 weeks for all our bespoke garments after which you’ll receive your bespoke Matthew Elliott Bespoke commission.
AFTER CARE
Our service doesn’t stop at the delivery. Once you take your garments home our care team will send you an email with all the information about how to take the best care or your items. We check back with you a few weeks later regarding your garment and overall experience as well as help with any further alterations.
OUR SHIRTS
It has been said that wearing an off-the-peg shirt with a bespoke suit is like putting plastic hub caps on a Ferrari. Here at Matthew Elliott Bespoke we only recommend the finest ‘alloys’ in our bespoke handmade shirts, and in 2018 we made the decision to only supply handmade shirts from the finest tailors globally.
Each shirt takes 32 hours to make by more than 26 experts and artisans. They are made with immense care and using 23 to 24 invisible hand stitches per inch – more than any other shirt you can purchase.
Luxurious 3.5mm mother-of-pearl buttons feature as a standard. They are sourced from the finest Australian oyster shells, cross-stitched to the body and inserted into 120 stitches-per-inch buttonholes.
To maintain their shape, colour, and crease, shirts are sourced from only the finest cloth merchants. These include DJ Ansderson, S.I.C. Tess, Thomas Mason, Morarjee and Tessitura Monti. The collection also represents a high thread count (up to 300/2), superfine Egyption and Giza 45 100% cotton and linen fabrics. To ensure skin is protected fabrics treated with harmful chemicals such as amonia are not included in the collection.

WEDDINGS
A bespoke customer, whether visiting Matthew Elliott London with an introduction or through mere curiosity, is introduced to the cutters in the bespoke room where the foundations are laid for a relationship of trust between cutter and customer which may last for decades.
The customer’s tastes, interests, and lifestyle are discussed and a picture of the man and his requirements is formed, with the cut and fit of the garment built around his needs. Later the garment is sketched by our design team to recreate our client’s ideas.
Next the cloth is chosen from a selection of tens of thousands, and the cutter will gently steer the customer towards something suitable.
The customer’s measurements are taken, as well as notes on build, stance and posture. Later, at his station the cutter sketches the customer’s unique pattern, using expertise and instinct to shape the two- dimensional panels that will combine into a form-fitting garment.
The cloth is cut from this pattern and passed to the tailors: the creators of the suit.
A few weeks later you come in for your first fitting and can see and feel the beginnings of a suit that previously existing only in your imagination. Exquisite, hand-worked details are added as the suit reaches completion: fine buttonholes, horn buttons, and the discreet label that reflects centuries of tailoring tradition. Once the final pressing is done, the suit is ready for collection.

MADE TO MEASURE
There’s nothing like wearing a suit that’s been cut to fit your exact measurements. Tailor-made is the ultimate luxury, and something every gentleman should invest in. We have been making tailored suits for men of style and distinction and with our state-of-the-art made-to-measure offering, this is set to continue; keeping the spirit of Savile Row alive but with the modern, jet setting gentleman firmly in mind.
The Matthew Elliott Bespoke made-to-measure journey starts on the fitting blocks, which we have completely redeveloped in a contemporary fashion to offer our clients an enhanced fit.
Made-to-measure is, ultimately, an experience which offers clients optimum fit and comfort – but the luxury of choice is also of paramount importance. As part of our MTM service, we have created a focused edit of 16 fabric collections that includes all of our signature styles. These cover all kinds of occasions and requirements: from overcoating to lightweight clothing, winter-weight suitings, jacketings and formalwear fabrics. These will be complemented by exclusive seasonal additions, introduced at the start of each new collection.
With a turnaround time of just six to eight weeks, the Matthew Elliott Bespoke made-to-measure service combines our renowned tailoring expertise with superior quality and a thoroughly modern service. It’s the perfect solution for the gentleman who values style as well as substance.
